Cheap Monday’s grunge-infested SS10 collection is the latest addition to the Somedays shop floor. Never one to follow the pack, Cheap Monday has strayed from the clean and dandy path that so many other labels seem to be treading at the moment.
This is the first collection to be released under the helm of Cheap Monday’s new creative director Ann-Sofie Back and her influence is apparent in the ripped, textured and tough pieces. Perhaps this is a little teaser of the direction she will eventually take for the brand.
Worn by middle-aged dads and hipsters alike, the boat shoe has been making some serious ground of late to bridge the generational style gap. First introduced in 1935, Sperry Top-Sider became the blueprint that so may others have followed. A perfect fusion of form and function, these puppies are hand sewn, water resistant and oh so dapper (especially when paired with a pair of cuffed chinos). The first colourway to arrive is navy and white with more to follow in a few weeks time.
Having long felt the urge to launch his own vision of a distinctive clothing line, Nikolaj Nielsen, an industry veteran with a vast background in denim, founded Won Hundred with the ambition to challenge the way fashion was grasped in Denmark.
After a debut collection compiled by two freelance designers Pernille Schwarz, a remarkable graduate from the renowned Designskolen Kolding, accepted the task of defining the brand´s expression and began the journey with a collection rooted in classical menswear and traditional formalwear.
Won hundred soon experienced a rapid increase in attention from press and retailers throughout Europe. The collection now comprises an extensive ready-to-wear collection ranging from t-shirts to tailor made suits and is flanked by a comprehensive jeans programme.
Danish label Won Hundred is the first of our new Scandinavian additions to arrive for the season. Having spent many an hour drooling over the look book, you can only imagine the excitement when the delivery turned up on our doorstep. As perverse as it may be, our excitement was not misplaced. This stuff looks and feels amazing.
Taking a slight departure from previous winters, it looks as if we are going to have a little colour thrown into the mix this year. Nikolaj Nielsen, the creative behind the aesthetic direction of Won Hundred knows exactly how to brighten up the autumn/winter seasons with beautiful pastels and traditional mens pieces like knit cardigans and checked shirts.
The first instalment of the Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair SS 2010 collection has just landed in store.
True to their heritage but always surprising, Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair is all about the details. Once again, the label’s trademark mix of tailored cuts and subtle decontruction characterise the collection. It’s understated and elegant with a strong emphasis on draping and overdyed fabrics.
Unfortunately for us gents, the first drop is all for the ladies. But be sure to watch this space because the remainder should be hitting our shores any day now.
There are few things that spark out sense of curiosity more than new labels. So it is with great delight that we introduce Handsom to the Somedays stable.
Created by British couple Sam Rush and Henry Allum, the debut collection merges traditional English sartorialism with contemporary silhouettes. Stand out pieces from the collection include the corduroy shorts and tailored shirts for the boys, and the pleated pinafores and leather waistcoats for the girls.
It’s preppy, sophisticated and just a little bit suave.

The vintage-inspired MOSCOT Originals collection is a nod to the classic looks of decades past.
MOSCOT Eyewear has been a New York City institution for nearly 100 years. The MOSCOT optical roots were first planted by great grandfather and patriarch, Hyman Moscot, who arrived from Eastern Europe via Ellis Island in 1899 and began selling ready-made eyeglasses from a pushcart on Orchard Street on Manhattan’s famed Lower East Side. In 1915, having establishing himself in the neighbourhood as the “go-to” guy for glasses, Hyman opened what would become MOSCOT’s first retail space at 94 Rivington Street.
The newly-made frames are based on styles from the MOSCOT archives from the 1930’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, retaining all of the authenticity of the original frame style right down to real glass lenses, traditional hardware, and lens colours that precisely duplicate the true colours first fabricated by the company in the 1940’s.
These babies have been worn by the likes of Marlin Brando and Johnny Depp and we are proud to announce that Somedays is the first Australian stockist.
Resterods is somewhat of a Swedish icon and the latest collection sees a continuation of the sharp tailoring for which the label is known.
The AW 09 collection is a blend of the American working class hero and the French bohemian activist of the late sixties (and classic Swedish style of course). The collection encourages the wearer to walk the walk, talk the talk, engage and participate.
The collection presents a rugged look with heavier textures and soft washed surfaces for that nice walked in vintage feel. The signature pieces are the padded biker jackets in treated black and brown leather. Ok so we know it’s not exactly jacket weather right now but these are the pieces you want to snap up and stash away for the colder months.
Summer attire has not been neglected, there are classic slim-cut striped tees for the boys and zip-up dresses for the girls as well as a whole host of other goodies.

So this year, in celebration of Somedays 4th Birthday, we thought we would continue the Scandinavian flavour as we host ‘The Somedays White Party’.
WHITE – the achromatic symbol of purity, cleanliness and innocence – all the things we are not. For one night only, the Somedays store will be transformed into a winter wonderland as we toast to another year gone by. So please don your most pallid attire (yeah, that means to put on something white….) and join us on the 2nd of December for an evening of untainted revelry.
The party will kick off in the store from 6pm till 8pm in conjunction with our chums at Pedestrian and Oyster Magazine. VB Raw and The Fringe Bar have been kind enough to ensure that everyone remains suitably lubricated throughout the evening and just to keep things amicable, the party will continue from 8pm hosted by F.R.I.E.N.D/S at The Fringe Bar (transport will be provided between venues).
To kick start the festive spirit we have decided to start the gift giving a little early this year. We’ve all been holding out for a little sunshine and the latest offering from Sydney label Secret Squirrel is exactly that. Where to find that super energy efficient light bulb, Gunnar bookshelf or lukewarm apple crumble for only $2? Ingvar Kamprad (aka IKEA) knows his shit and invited us over for some shopping and coffee. Somewhere needed some basic ingredients and off we went to the Swedish giant.Hours later and exhausted we reached the check-outs. Mandatory fights over colour choices were all ticked off as well as getting lost in its endless maze. We stuffed the car to the point of bursting and off we rolled with the quarry back to our nest on Little Collins St. More work was ahead of us. This was just the beginning, but at least we had a chance to drink $1 re-fill coffee and eat some Bulle (Swedish cinnaman rolls) and feel a little like home.
The caravan finally and safely reached the long-awaited destination. Sydney’s farewell sun had suddenly transformed into a Melbourne welcome rain and at first we didn’t feel as welcomed at all. The lack of sunshine and the presence of heavy rains made everything black and white, no grey, and it felt like being in a British crime telly movie.
But there she was. The space was just as beautiful as we remembered. This time a blank space, empty and at the same time scary. M and I were supposed to fill this beauty with equally beautiful things and the potential was just too obvious. No time to loose we thought and attacked armed with paint brushes, hammers, ladders, saws and a few cases of lager. Terrified Melbournites saw a thick haze of dust coming through the second floor windows and now they knew, the Somewhere missionaries were here and this time it was for real. With a tough and strict schedule directing us we began the renovations. Out with the old in with the new we said, covered in paint cheering a lager.
So finally the time had come. The countdown had long ago reached zero and the audience were about to leave when M suddenly appeared with the most magnificent trailer Sydney had ever seen. Bright red as it was it sparkled in the hot Sydney sun. It was ready to take us on a journey to a distant far away land where Swedish fashion had to be taught and planted. Like missionaries, with a call from above, we set off to spread the beauty.
Behind us tear-wettedhandkerchiefs waved in the air as we were eaten by the horizon. We were gone.
M looking more like Jesus than Jesus himself showed us the right way (on the right hand side of the road of course). Our convoy floated smoothly through prefab wool valleys and noisy truck driver parks until our eyes got red and sore from tiredness. Even though the road was remarkably even and straight it would be too dangerous to sleep through these passages and to rely on our TomTom to shout out loud and wake us up when the road was about to bend. Yes, this was out of the question so we decided to find Somewhere to sleep.
We reached a sleepy Albury at around midnight and the goose bumps on our arms indicated that Sydney’s warming lap was miles away and Sweden felt terrifying close for a second. Albury Allawa Motor Inn’s heater could be turned up to 29 degrees and we went full throttle. Exhausted as he was, M fell asleep in the middle of a sentence and I stayed awake with too much caffeine in my veins and too many impressions to digest. We were really doing it. We were going to Melbourne. To be continued

Well this is the exhibition for you! A wonderfully unique and quirky range of illustrations will be on display at somedays gallery from next Wednesday. Our new show ‘St. Collective’ show cases the extensive talents of three emerging illustrators. As always we will be having a giant fabulous opening night party to celebrate. Come along for a beverage or three with a good dose of art to top it all off. St Collective featuring Mark Bärwald, Alex Lehours and Harrison “El Herlo” Earl opens Wednesday 19th August 6pm. You’d be crazy to miss it.
Australian creative four-piece designer collective Sosume give us a stylish, over comfy collection made of the finest organic and natural products. The design is inspired by visual arts and architecture with a minimal and simplistic outcome. This exhibition is a collection of simple portraits by British photographer Demola. He prefers shooting in natural light and letting nature dictate the direction of each shoot. The subjects range from models, through to your average Joe or not so average Joe. He’s inspired by beauty in all it’s permutations weather classic or totally abstract. Opening – 6pm Wed 29th July

We are proud to introduce a piece of Swedish industrial history to Sydney – step up Resteröds. The knitting machines in the Resteröds Trikåfabrik (fabric factory) are more than 70 years old and still in use. The low knitting tempo of these machines creates a higher quality fabric with a texture reminiscent of the old days. I remember watching my grandpa chopping wood during my summer holidays in Sweden. He would wear a sun bleached white basic singlet from Resteröds. A classic for all time.

Our passion for Swedish fashion aside, we can’t deny that Denmark has once again proved their ability to create new, edgy and exciting fashion. The somedays crew left Copenhagen fashion fair a few months ago where several remarkable shows were seen, but one particular show made us go wild – the Designer Remix collection. Back in Sydney we could not wait to get the new collection in and we certainly weren’t disappointed when it finally arrived.

It all started in 2004 when the skin tight denim with the iconic skull logo first hit the market. Cheap Monday emerged after designer Orjan Andersson felt there was a need for unwashed, tight fitting jeans at a shockingly good price. Julian Red was founded by head designer Mattias Lind in Gothenburg, Sweden, in late 2002. The brand takes its name from a character in B.E. Ellis’ novel “Less Than Zero.” In the book, Julian is a disillusioned punk with an intensive relationship to art and music.
